Solid Silicon Etalons

Solid silicon etalons are interesting because the high index of silicon (3.4 depending on wavelength) creates a reasonably high finesse without any coatings. The temperature sensitivity of silicon can also be useful (or problematic). These etalons are often used to monitor the wavelengths of long wavelength lasers in applications such as Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy, TDLAS,

  • Material: Silicon
  • Wavelength range: IR 1.2um to 6.3um
  • Wedge < 0.5 arc second*
  • Surface quality: 40/20 or better
  • Surface figure: λ/20
  • Mounting: the 8x8mm and 14x14mm etalons can be cemented to a 1" diameter holder
  • Finesse is ~2.5 dependent on the wavelength
  • Thickness: see table
  • * If your etalons require coatings then we can use our fluid jet polishing system to reduce the wedge and increase the finesse
  • We have two standard sizes for the silicon etalons
