We are hiring!

These are our active openings.  Don't see a good fit for you?  Just send us a general application.   We have jobs we know we need to fill that haven't been posted yet.  So there is no harm in letting us know about you and what you have to offer.
Please be aware that LightMachinery does not request or require any sort of payments as part of our hiring process, and job offers are not extended without a formal interview process.

Project Engineer

LightMachinery supplies optical components to space agencies and prime contractors around the globe.  Our customers turn to us for difficult, even "impossible" optical projects.

We are looking for a well-rounded person with a Masters degree in Physics or Engineering Physics to manage these projects.

This would include:

  • regular interaction via email, phone, and in-person meetings with our customers
  • writing proposals and reports
  • designing optics and optical systems to address customers' needs.
  • managing the fabrication of the devices

Before we can start building these components we need to understand how they work and how they will be used.  One of your tasks is to understand the customer’s application requirements and to translate these into manufacturable product specifications.

Here are the detailed minimum job requirements:

  • Master's degree in Physics or Eng. Phys

  • Experience with optical design software (Zemax, Code V, FilmStar or Film Wizard) would be an asset

  • Experience with CAD useful

  • Experience with MathCAD or similar

  • Excellent English language skills

  • Canadian Citizen or otherwise eligible to be security screened for work with controlled goods.

Coating Technician

LightMachinery operates a number of advanced thin-film coating chambers.  The coating process is a critical step in the production of tightly toleranced optical components.    Coating technicians at LightMachinery must clean optics using a very specific technique (we'll teach you), load the components carefully in the machines, and execute the coating program.  With time, you will learn to design coatings and to maintain and troubleshoot the equipment.  Eventually - you can expect to deal directly with customers to help them specify their requirements.

Minimum Requirements

  • University science degree or a college diploma with sufficient math skills
  • Strong English language skills (written and spoken)
  • An excellent attitude and sense of humour.  We have to work with you - so this is very important.
  • Sufficient dexterity to handle small and delicate glass components
  • Ability and willingness to work night shifts
