Thin Film Technician
Nepean, Ontario (Colonnade Road) · Full-time, permanent · Evening shift
LightMachinery designs and builds precision optics, spectrometers, and lasers in Nepean. Thin film coating is the final step for most of the optics we make - layers only nanometres thick that determine how much light an optic reflects or transmits.
We're looking for a Thin Film Technician to run our deposition systems on the evening shift.
What you'll do
- Load and unload substrates into coating fixtures, handling optics finished to tolerances finer than a human hair
- Set up and operate our thin film deposition systems, running coating recipes from start to finish
- Monitor runs in progress and record process data accurately
- Keep the chambers in condition — foiling, cleaning tooling and fixtures, and routine preventive maintenance
- Work with our coating engineers to troubleshoot when a run doesn't come out the way it should
What we're looking for
- A technical diploma in a relevant discipline, or hands-on experience that got you to the same place
- Methodical, careful work habits — someone who follows a procedure exactly and notices when something is off
- Steady hands and real attention to detail
- Comfort reading written procedures and recording data precisely
- Vacuum systems or thin film coating experience is an asset, but we'll train the right person
Schedule
After an initial training period on days, this is an evening shift position. Hours likely 2 to 10pm or 3 to 11pm, we can be flexible.
Monday to Friday.
Compensation and benefits
- $20.00 – $30.00 per hour, depending on experience
- Health and dental coverage
- RRSP matching
- Paid time off
- On-site parking
